The secret of the "Chocolate Girl", with Petra Landsberg
03.05.2012
Without making any gesture to the observer, the neatly dressed chocolate girl impresses through her fragile beauty. Her youthful face exudes freshness and naturalness. Fully focused, she carries a glass of chocolate and a glass of water on a small enamel tablet. The picture was created between 1743 and 1745 at the court of the Austrian Empress Marie Therese. During this time the Swiss artist Jean-Étienne Liotard resided in Vienna to make portraits of the empress and her husband. To this day it is not known who the portrayed person actually is.
'La Belle Chocolatière' has had a special and even curious career in economic history as an advertising icon, as an art motif and as a trademark. Her charm appears irresistible!
Since her childhood, Petra Landsberg, who was born in 1952, has dedicated herself with passion and investigative skill to following the traces of this beauty. She worked in Dresden as a museum educationist for three decades. During this time she acquired wide experience and gained remarkable insight into the pastel picture which she is now passing on to the visitors of the event.
